Aurora Borealis Itinerary for Basic Northern Lights Tour package combined with 2 nights in a remote and cozy cabin (self guided) in Whitehorse, Yukon.
Day 1
We’ll welcome you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel in downtown Whitehorse. The hotel is located within walking distance of all attractions, restaurants, banks, and stores. We will have an informational meeting and registration for optional tours at the hotel. Take your time for fitting the winter clothing (optional), shopping, and dinner on your own. At 10:00 pm departure for Aurora viewing. A cozy, heated cabin or wall tent with hot drinks and snacks makes your Aurora viewing even more enjoyable. Return to hotel around 2.30 am.
Day 2
Your outdoor adventure starts today and we are all eager to leave civilization behind and exchange its amenities for quietness and untouched wilderness while staying in a remote cabin at a beautiful lake. Today at 9:00 am we will meet you in the lobby for your cabin adventure. Your guide will check your winter clothing to make sure you will be all comfortable and prepared for your cabin stay. Have your shopping list ready – the supermarket is your next stop. You will need supplies for 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, and 2 dinners as well as snacks, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and maybe a bottle of wine. Once you finished your shopping you are heading out of town on the Alaska Highway and turn north onto the Klondike Highway. While passing the city limits about 25 kilometers north of town, we realize that traffic slows down. After a 50-minutes drive we arrive at the Fox Creek bridge and we turn right onto a narrow and windy road. Only about 9 kilometers of a gentle up and down, passing through some breathtaking landscapes of iced-over swamps, mountains, and forests, we arrive at your destination. Your cabin will already be pre-heated with a wood stove and is waiting for you to move in. The cabins are equipped with cooking utensils, cups, pots and pans. The property is right on the lake and has 4 cabins within walking distance. A well heated washhouse with washrooms, flush toilets, and hot showers is accessible at any time. Your guide will give you an introduction to the site, show you the trails, and answers all of the questions you may have. You will also learn from where you can best view the Aurora Borealis. Strap on your snowshoes and explore the trails up onto the ridge or out onto the lake (ask your guide about safe trails on the lake!). You may also want to book an optional tour. Your guide will head back to town and you will enjoy a cup of tea or coffee. You will experience complete silence – all you may hear is the snow crunching under your feet when you are walking outside your cabin. In the evening you may enjoy the wood heated sauna, before and after the Aurora Viewing.
Day 3
Day at your leisure – optional day tours need to be pre-booked. Or simply enjoy a ‘day off’ from everything. A lazy morning … a snow shoe walk out onto the lake or the ridge (ask your guide about safe trails on the lake) … a cup of tea at your cabin window enjoying the incredible view out onto the lake. In the evening, you may stay up late again to view the Aurora Borealis.
Day 4
Morning at your leisure or optional half day tour in the morning. Transfer back to your hotel in downtown at 2:00pm. At 10:00pm we will depart for another night of Aurora viewing at the Northern Tales Trading Post. Return to hotel around 2.30 am.
